Embodied Teaching: 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Glasgow

Embodied Teaching is a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, held at Meridian Yoga and Pilates® in the East End of Glasgow – led by Michelle Lang with the support of expert guest facilitators: Lorraine Livingstone, Gillian Campbell, Tally Kerr and Victoria Cunningham. It’s designed for committed yoga practitioners, who want to develop an authentic teaching style which is grounded, inclusive, and supportive. This training balances practical teaching skills with theory, self-inquiry, and embodied learning.

Who This Training Is For?

This course is suitable for dedicated yoga practitioners who feel called to teach or deepen their personal practice. A minimum of two years of regular yoga practice is required. Places are offered through an application and interview process to ensure the training is the right fit. The interview is informal and supportive, intended to clarify intentions rather than assess performance.

FAQ’s

  • The training runs over 12 in-person weekends from October 2026 to September 2027. Learning is progressive and integrates theory, embodied practice, discussion, and teaching practice throughout the course.

  • Each day includes a balance of:

    • Embodied practice (asana, breath, somatic exploration)

    • Lectures and group discussion

    • Practical exercises and applied learning

    • Integrated teaching practice

    Breaks are scheduled but are not counted as teaching hours.

  • The training includes 40 hours of integrated teaching practice, woven into key modules rather than taught separately. This includes short peer-teaching, sequencing labs, cueing practice, feedback, and reflection.

  • Yes. Trauma awareness is a core thread. Students learn about the nervous system, choice, and inclusive teaching, and apply these principles directly within sequencing and teaching practice.

  • Anatomy is taught from a functional perspective, focusing on how bodies move in real life. Topics include joints, connective tissue, common yoga-related injuries, and areas such as the spine, hips, shoulders, lungs, and psoas.

  • You’ll need at least two years of regular yoga practice. No teaching experience is required. Pre-reading or reflection may be offered to support your learning.

  • Assessment is ongoing and supportive, including:

    • Participation and integration

    • Short written or reflective tasks

    • Teaching practice and observation

    • A final practical teaching assessment

    There are no surprise assessments at the end of the course.

    The course is accredited with Yoga Alliance Professionals.

  • Yes. The course includes 20 non-contact hours, such as reading, reflection, observation, or written work. Clear guidance is provided.

  • Not necessarily. Some students join to deepen their practice and understanding. Many find their relationship to teaching unfolds naturally during the training.

  • Places are limited. An application and informal interview process helps ensure the training is a good fit for everyone involved.

  • This training may be a good fit if you:

    • Have at least two years of regular yoga practice

    • Are curious about how and why we teach, not just what we teach

    • Want to explore yoga through an embodied, functional, and trauma-aware lens

    • Value inclusive language, thoughtful sequencing, and real-world teaching skills

    • Learn best through practice, reflection, and discussion

    • Are open to feedback and committed to personal growth

    • Feel called to teach, or want to deepen your relationship with yoga in a meaningful way

    This training may not be the best fit if you:

    • Are looking for fast-track certification with minimal self-inquiry

    • Prefer rigid sequences or prescriptive teaching formulas

    • Are not able to attend the majority of in-person weekends

    • Are unwilling to engage in reflective or participatory learning

    You do not need to have teaching experience, be “advanced” in postures, or fit a particular mould. All bodies, backgrounds, and learning styles are welcome.

    Michelle Lang (She/Her)

    LEAD FACILITATOR

    Our lead trainer, Michelle, is the owner of Meridian Yoga & Pilates, and also leads our 50 Hour Yin Yoga Course. With 23 years of practice and teaching since 2013, Michelle is a senior yoga teacher who brings depth, experience, and an inclusive approach to both Vinyasa and Yin Yoga. Michelle's teaching ethics and the wider values of the studio have been strongly influenced by a 20 year career in Social Care.

    For the past decade, Michelle has run yoga studios; mentoring and supporting teachers, and creating spaces where people feel welcome and empowered.

    A Glasgow based Reiki Master and Shamanic Practitioner, Michelle integrates energy work with trauma-aware teaching, informed by her background of working with pregnant people and nursing mums in services for addiction trauma and mental health.

     As a neurodiverse person, Michelle understands the need for supportive environments where every student can learn in their own way.

    Tally is an experienced yoga teacher in Glasgow, with over 6 years of teaching and more than 500 hours of dedicated training, bringing depth and authenticity to her work. She is passionate about exploring the deeper layers of yoga, weaving philosophy and mythology into her teaching to support both on-the-mat practice and everyday life.

    She has a talent for making yoga philosophy approachable, breaking down complex, expansive ideas into clear, relatable concepts while still honouring the tradition’s richness and historical roots. Her teaching encourages students to build a deeper connection with themselves, their practice, and the essence of yoga.

    Alongside her teaching, Tally has trained others in kids’ yoga through the Ordinary People Academy Stretch & Play programme. She also offers mentoring and business support for self-employed individuals in the wellness industry, helping simplify the process of building a business and empowering others to create strong, accessible foundations so they can grow with clarity and confidence.

    Lorraine is a senior yoga teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience in Glasgow, and a complementary therapist with 9 years supporting people’s wellbeing. Her holistic approach, shaped by her therapy background, gives her a deep understanding of the body, touch, and individual needs, alongside a strong, practical knowledge of anatomy and movement. This informs her skilled and considered approach to hands-on assists.

    She is particularly passionate about outreach work, bringing yoga to disadvantaged communities across Glasgow and creating inclusive, accessible spaces where people feel safe, respected, and supported. Lorraine also co-facilitates on the 50-hour Yin training, where she supports trainees in developing a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the body and practice.

    As a facilitator, she guides trainees in learning how to read different bodies, understand physical and energetic boundaries, and apply touch with care. Grounded in a “less is more” philosophy, her teaching focuses on subtle, thoughtful, and adaptable techniques that help future teachers build confidence in offering safe, effective, and respectful hands-on support.

    Gillian is a yoga and aerial yoga teacher, retreat host and teacher trainer based in Glasgow. With over 800 hours of Yoga Alliance accredited training across yin yoga, vinyasa, anatomy, biomechanics and trauma-informed practice, she brings a calm, grounded approach to her teaching, creating spaces where students can explore movement, breath and stillness in a supportive and welcoming way.

    Alongside her regular classes and retreats, Gillian trains aerial yoga teachers and co-facilitates the 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training at Meridian, sharing her love for slower, more introspective practices and helping others build confidence in holding space.

    Before moving into yoga full time, Gillian spent many years working in the health and wellbeing sector in leadership roles that centred around community, connection and supporting people. These experiences continue to shape the thoughtful, steady way she approaches her teaching today.

    Victoria is a trailblazer in the wellness industry, renowned as the Founder and CEO of the Ordinary People Academy.

    With over 30 years of yoga practice and two decades of teaching experience, Victoria is a Yoga Alliance Professionals Senior Yoga Teacher, boasting over 10,000 hours of instruction. Her expertise was recognised when she was shortlisted for Health & Wellbeing Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards and was a Regional Finalist in the Pitch UK 2024 (where she delivered an “anti-pitch” breathwork session).

    Among the myriad of other trainings Victoria delivers, she specialises in Breathwork, and in 2024 the Ordinary People Academy became an Organisational Member of the International Breathwork Foundation because they adhere to their ethics and standards for the promotion of conscious breathing and breathwork as a vital tool for healing and well-being in all areas of life.

You can also mix and match between zoom/ in person coaching sessions, assisting or observing Michelle’s public yoga classes.
